Since 2008, Green Taxi's recognizable Prius taxis have been part of the Charleston streetscape — driven by local drivers, coordinated by a real dispatch team.
The short version
Charleston Green Taxi started in 2008 with a simple idea: fuel-efficient Prius taxis, local drivers, and a dispatcher who actually answers the phone. Charleston noticed. Riders kept the number; hotels and hospitals kept calling; and Charleston City Paper readers recognized Green Taxi in their Best Taxi category over multiple years.
Then the app era arrived, and plenty of taxi companies disappeared. We didn't — because a good portion of Charleston's transportation needs never fit an app. Early flights that can't be missed. Hospital discharges coordinated with a nurse, not a push notification. Standing weekly rides. Trips out to Wadmalaw, or all the way to Columbia. The complicated rides became our specialty, and the everyday rides never stopped.
Today Green Taxi serves riders, visitors, businesses, hospitals, and institutions across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties. The formula hasn't changed: local drivers who know the region, advance reservations that hold, and one phone number that gets a real person.
